(420Times) Researchers at The University of Michigan Medical School have been approved for a $2.2 million grant from the federal government to study the effects of marijuana on pain.
“With the ongoing policy debate and the growing popularity of medical marijuana programs in the United States, it is essential to understand the ramifications of medical marijuana use for individuals who seek access to it,” study leader Mark Ilgen said in a statement. “We hope that with this study can help inform the debate.”
Medical cannabis advocates agree. Many know from experience that cannabis helps with pain, but much can still be learned as to how and why it works. This information can be used to create better and more efficient ways of helping people treat their ailments.
The grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse to U of M researchers will last for 4 years and fund a study of 800 patients.
